语言与文化有着深刻而复杂的联系,它是文化的基石,又是文化的载体。美国教育家温斯顿.布伦姆伯格说过:“采取只知语言而不懂文化的教法,是培养语言流利的大傻瓜的最好办法。”
时间:九月一日(新学期第一堂英语课)
学生:高一新生(教师与学生第一次见面,学生也是来自不同初中)

随着国际间交往日益密切,人们逐渐意识到学习外语不仅仅指对语言的掌握,更包括对语言蕴涵的文化的了解。如果一个人仅有语言知识而忽略使用这种语言的社会规约,缺乏跨文化意识和文化差异的敏感性,就会闹出笑话,引起误会,甚至对他人造成伤害。
语言与文化有着深刻而复杂的联系,它是文化的基石,又是文化的载体。美国教育家温斯顿.布伦姆伯格说过:“采取只知语言而不懂文化的教法,是培养语言流利的大傻瓜的最好办法。”不同民族有着不同的文化、历史、风俗习惯和风土人情等,各民族的文化和社会风俗又都在该民族的语言中表现出来。语言离不开文化,文化依靠语言,交际以语言为载体,对于文化的了解才能成就成功的交际。英语教学是语言教学,当然离不开文化教育。
文化和语言教学的紧密结合是培养英语语言专业人员的必然要求,作为教师应充分认识英语语言教授中的文化因素,采取精心选择、有效融合、适时创新的方法,以提高学生对文化的敏感性,培养其文化意识,使他们能主动地、自觉地吸收并融入新的文化环境中,更好地促成语言的学习。
跨文化交际活动教学片断设计:
At the first class in senior school:
Teacher: Hello, everyone. I’m very glad to see all of you here and I’m sure we’ll have fun learning English together this term. Since this is the first time we’ve met, I’d like to know something of you. (Ask one of the Ss) May I know/have your name?
S1: My name is ……
T: Nice to meet you. (shake hands with the student and repeat with another student.)
Get the Ss to practice this dialogue in groups of four and tell them it is impolite to ask other’s name using “What’s your name?” at the first meet. It is also rude to ask about one’s age or other private things(How old are you? Are you married? How much do you make every month? What's your religion? What have you been busy doing?) even if you are friends. The best topic for strangers is about the weather.
Also, “Nice to meet you!” is used when you meet for the first time. When meeting your fiends, you can say, “Hi, Mary! Nice to see you here! What a surprise!”
